Theredshifted21a€‰cm-linesignalfromneutralhydrogenintheintergalacticmedium(IGM)givesadirectprobeoftheepochofreionization(EoR).Inthispaper,weinvestigatethepotentialofthevarianceandskewnessoftheprobabilitydistributionfunctionofthe21a€‰cmbrightnesstemperatureforconstrainingEoRmodels.Thesestatisticalquantitiesaresimple,easytocalculatefromtheobservedvisibility,andthussuitablefortheearlyexplorationoftheEoRwithcurrenttelescopessuchastheMurchisonWidefieldArray(MWA)andLOwFrequencyARray(LOFAR).Weshow,byperformingFisheranalysis,thatthevarianceandskewnessatz=7a€“9arecomplementarytoeachothertoconstraintheEoRmodelparameterssuchastheminimumvirialtemperatureofhaloswhichhostluminousobjects,ionizingefficiency,andmeanfreepathofionizingphotonsintheIGM.Quantitatively,theconstrainingpowerhighlydependsonthequalityoftheforegroundsubtractionandcalibration.Wegiveabestcaseestimateoftheconstraintsontheparameters,neglectingthesystematicsotherthanthethermalnoise.
