—The paper attempts to give a formal frameworkto capture the entire process of scientific discovery includinghypothesis formation, reasoning, identifying contradictions,peer reviewing, reformulating and so on. Data mining canbe seen as one step in this complex process of interactivelearning of an empirical theory This paper uses the terminologyfrom paraconsistent logic and paracomplete logic thatextends Aristotle square in a hypercube of oppositions whichdefines or substantiates any step of the discovery process.The central formal notions are validated on a mathematicalscientific discovery game, and an industrial applicationin the field of Drug Discovery illustrates how the presentedframework combines different learning processes to predictpharmaco-kinetic properties (ADME-T) and adverse sideeffects of therapeutic drug molecules.
