In tough economic times many firms send the L&D budget for the first chop. However this is a case of the proverbial "cutting off the nose to spite the face". An holistic culture that values education and training, and thus values both employees and customers is a necessary component of competitiveness in the modern business world. However, any old training will not do. Training programs must be assessed, evaluated and modernized to meet the needs of today's employers and employees. This can be done through the use of analytics to track trends and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs. Jiffy Lube has demonstrated that training can be modernized very effectively and that L&D, when done well, does equate to success.
