摘要

Back in the 1970s IBM came up with a neat twist on a familiar axiom called "The IBM Pollyanna Principle". People have interpreted this ambiguous statement in either a Utopian way, whereby machines should work and people should think or a dystopian way; that most of the world's problems stem from machines that fail to work and people who fail to think. Being an optimist and a firm believer in the potential of people, mine is the former interpretation. However, companies that make flawed investment decisions in machines and people can find their businesses in a downward, dystopian spiral.
