摘要

Space exploration is humanity's destiny to unravel the secrets of our solar system and beyond. Thoughts of the existence of a human like civilization and inhabitable plan-ets that are earth like within the Milky Way have fasci-nated mankind for centuries and will continue in the future. The Milky Way galaxy is the home of our Solar System and at least 200-400 billion Stars and their Planets. Future exploration of our solar system, and beyond, will require large and incredibly advanced power systems that generate hundreds of kilowatts to tens of megawatts of electricity for many years and operate independent of the sun. The solar intensity decreases very rapidly with dis-tance from the sun; on Mars, it is about 45% of that on earth and drops to ~4% on Jupiter.
