It gave me a great pleasure in putting together this special issue of Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements on "Mesh reduction methods for industrial applications". The field of mesh reduction methods certainly belongs to one of the most intensively developed aspects of modem computational mechanics. These methods are increasingly being used in many fields of sciences and engineering. The methods are with confidence finding their path into precompe-titive studies and industrial design applications. The purpose of the present special issue of EABE on Mesh reduction methods for industrial applications is a selection of papers in the broad field of mesh reduction and alternative methods, dedicated to present or future industrial applications, as well as demonstration of their power in solving these kind of problems. The authors of the papers originate from US, Asia and Europe.
