A new report from the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is urging EPA to redo its draft paper that found that the agency's current test methods are adequate to account for the unusual dose-responses of some chemicals, finding that EPA's scientific review practices were so shoddy the agency could not adequately justify its conclusions. "EPA's state-of-the-science [SOTS] evaluation addressed questions about toxicity testing without specific reference to and demonstration with its own testing strategies," NAS said in a press release. "The committee recommended that EPA perform a more explicit analysis by specifying the toxicity-testing strategies under consideration and evaluating them for their ability to detect nonmonotonic dose-response (NMDR) relationships."
