The Sierra Club has sued the Environmental Protection Agency, asking a federal court to require the agency to take action on 22 state implementation plans for control of ozone (Sierra Club v. McCarthy, N.D. Cal., No. 3:14-cv-03198, 7/15/14). The environmental advocacy group July 15 asked the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to find the EPA in violation of the Clean Air Act for failure to meet deadlines on approving or disapproving elements of 21 SIPs to meet a 2008 national ambient air quality standard for ozone.
