The White House is reviewing a final rule that as proposed would require additional states to com ply with provisions of the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, according to a Nov. 15 posting on the website of the Office of Management and Budget. The proposed version of the rule would require six additional states-Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin-to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from power plants during the summer ozone season. In July, the Environmental Protection Agency re leased the final cross-state rule, which requires power plants in 27 states to reduce interstate transport of sul fur dioxide emissions annually, nitrogen oxide emis sions annually, and/or nitrogen oxide emissions during the summer (76 Fed. Reg. 48,208; 42 ER 1493, 7/8/11).
