At last new things are happening in the schoolyard, after an interminable tradition of being fitted out with dull stretches of paving stones and with railway-sleeper benches. Artists and designers are increasingly requested to come up with complete layouts for schoolyards or to furnish them with exciting implements. Usually an art foundation acts as a mediator here. In this case it was Stroom Den Haag that commissioned Cuido Marsille and Claus Wiersma to create a work of art for two schoolyards at Transvaal College in The Hague, a school for pupils with behavioural disturbances and psychiatric problems. The designers found a solution in a number of sturdy yet movable and multi-purpose seating objects.
