Last week's announced creation of Nova Tankers, a VLCC pool with about 50 ships, indicates how difficult times are. Five companies: Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), Phoenix Tankers, AP Moller-Msersk, Samco Shipholding and Ocean Tankers, form the new pool whose fleet will be bigger than that of Tankers International, the London-based operator of VLCCs that currently has 43 ships. MD of Nova Tankers will be Morten Plinov, currently head of gas at Maersk Tankers, with experience of pools in that sector.
