When it comes to non-naval repair, it's the cruise industry, not commercial shipping, that drives North American business. In recent years, Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport has overwhelmingly dominated the cruise arena, winning the vast majority of refit jobs. Not only is it ideally located, a few hours sail from south Florida, but Carnival and Royal Caribbean each own 40% of the yard.
