This magazine carries separate sections headed 'Regulation' and Technology', and covers vessel operations within our 'Trade & Commerce' section. But are these mutually exclusive or, in the real world, do developments in one area impact on others?rnThe maritime community knows just how closely they are related, but there's plenty of evidence of legislators drafting regulations that fail to take account of commercial reality. Some legislation makes demands on the technical community that go far beyond equipment that is currently available. In many cases, shipowners and operators are reluctant to fit new products because they are just not affordable or because training of seafarers to run the new kit properly would put extra strain on depleted crews.
