Intertanko's shipping focus is in its name, so the most immediate compulsion is to ask its chief negotiator about the common structural rules for ships. Introduced last year to ensure greater safety in tanker and bulker construction, the rules were created when rising costs were frustrating shipowners.rnThe question is whether economy, not structural enhancement, was the main driver behind their creation. Were the rules really devised to help reduce tanker prices?
