The Air & Space Museum's New Udvar-Hazy Center After several hours of wandering around the smithsonian institution National Air & Space Museum's new Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Washington, D.C.'s Dulles airport, I finally put my finger on the source of the slightly surreal feeling that's been gnawing at the back of my mind all afternoon. It's the size. The Boeing 707 "Dash 80" prototype of the first American jet-powered airliner sits off to the left, along with the Falcon 20 that was Federal Express's first airplane, an Air France Concorde, the only surviving Boeing 307 Stratoliner, and the Enola Gay atomic B-29 bomber. Off to the right are a variety of modern military jets, from the F-4 to the newly tested X-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and flanking the overlook platform, in dramatically converging bank angles, are a suspended Curtiss P-40 and Chance-Vought F-4U Corsair from World War Ⅱ.
