There aren't many places these days where one can predictably be treated like a king, sultan or maharajah. The glory days of elegant steamship travel are gone and the tradition of dressing for airline travel seems extinct. There is little question that Ritz Carlton's are swank hotels and a treat to stay in, but there is this subliminal sense that the desk clerk doesn't really mean it when he says, "My pleasure, sir."No, the only remaining locus of true first-class treatment is a good FBO. Be you in a Gulfstream or a Skyhawk, the good ones roll out the red carpet for you. Literally. The newspapers are free. So is the coffee, the ice and, in some places, the cookies, popcorn and iced tea.
