A plaque dedicated to Sgt Thomas Mottershead vc was unveiled at 6 Vine Street in Widnes on Jan 17. Mottershead, recipient of the only VC ever awarded to a non-commissioned RFC officer during World War One, was born at this address in 1892. A fundraising appeal for a statue is now under way.www.mottersheadstatueappeal.co.uk FlyPast would like to thank Ian Simpson for his help in sourcing the images and words for the Glory Days section of the March 2017 issue. The portfolio of pictures was based around the late Wg Cdr Gordon Haywood's collection. The shots were taken during the early war activities of the RAF's 615 Squadron.
