Avro Shackleton AEW.2 WR963 successfully ran its engines and 'posed' for a twilight photography shoot at Coventry, Warks, on November 16. The aircraft, owned by the Shackleton Preservation Trust, fired up all four of its Rolls-Royce Griffon engines at around 4pm, each being brought up to around 2,450rpm and running for around 30 minutes. Despite inclement weather, around 60 photographers and supporters attended the event. First flown on March 11,1954, WR963 served with several units including 224 Squadron in Gibraltar, 38 Squadron at Hal Far, Malta, and finally 8 Squadron at Lossiemouth. It was delivered to Coventry at the end of its service life on July 9,1991. It has recently been registered G-SKTN and is undergoing a long-term restoration to flying condition.
