During early may filming got underway at Halton, Bucks, on Flyboys, an Electric Entertainment production based on America's first fighter pilot squadron, the Lafayette Escadrille. The story traces the exploits of a group of young Americans who volunteered to join the French long before the US entered World War One. Directed by Academy Award winner Tony Bill (The Sting), the film stars Jean Reno (Leon, Mission Impossible, Godzilla), James Franco (Spider Man 2), Martin Henderson (The Ring, Bride and Prejudice) and French newcomer Jennifer Decker. Although most of Mr Bill's more recent directorial work has been in television, he is a licensed pilot and World War One aficionado, so was an obvious choice for the job. And in an extra bid for realism, leading man James Franco got his pilot's licence for the film.
