摘要

From the President on down, everyone suddenly agrees that new businesses are the key to job creation. This view is the result of a failed bet by government that big business could save the economy. Big business has failed to deliver those jobs: The publicly salvaged auto companies have fewer workers coming in the gates now than they did before the bailouts. The truth has long been evident in federal data, frequently used in studies by the Kauffman Foundation, that show that most net new job creation in America comes from companies less than five years old. Entrepreneurship isn't a silver bullet, but economic recovery won't happen without it In fact, many of America's largest and most successful companies, including IBM, Target and Microsoft, were started during a recession or bear market.
