摘要

A special discussion, regarding the domestication of wild pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) in Albania, has first started in 1995. This discussion triggered a study that continued for the next several years. This research resulted in the identification of a wild pomegranate belt of about 300 km, along the Adriatic and Ionian coastline of the western part of Albania. Considering the results of this study regarding morphological, biological and biochemical assessments, toponymic and linguistic data, it is revealed that there are some indications that pomegranate could have been domesticated in Albania independently from other regions.
