Kuwait's Ministry of Energy has retendered an estimated $85 million contract to upgrade distillation units at the Doha east power and desalination plant. Six international contractors prequalified for the work for the original tender, which was issued in 2005. They are Doosan Heavy Industries; Italy's Fantuzzi Reggiane; Fisia Italimpianti, Hitachi Zosen Corporation; Weir Westgarth; and Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Only Doosan submitted a bid and the original tender was cancelled in January because Kuwait's tendering regulations require at least two bids for a scheme to proceed. The same prequalifiers have been invited to bid for the retendered project, to be undertaken as an engineering, procurement and construction contract.
