Degremont has won a joint venture partnership from Western Australia's Water Corporation on a 50-50 basis with Multiplex Engineering for the design, build and operation of Perth's first 140,000 cu m/day seawater RO desalination plant. Multiplex will build the plant, worth ?170 million, whilst Degremont will operate it for 25 years, earning a total of ?300 million. The plant, which will provide 17% of Perth's water, is to be built at Kwinana, 25 km south of Perth, and is planned for completion in October 2006. The 24 megawatts of power necessary to run the plant annually will be provided through fifty giant wind turbines.
