摘要

Work on India's biggest sea-water desalination project in the southern state of Tamil Nadu is likely to kick off in six months, after the local government selected a consultant and signed a water purchase agreement for supply of 100 million liters per day of desalinated water. IVRCL Infrastructures and Projects Limited, a Hyderabad-based construction company, signed a water sales agreement this week with the local utility, agreeing to sell water on a take-or-pay basis at an average price of $1.1 per kiloliter for 25 years. The local company, which has no experience in large-scale desalination projects, had staved off competition from four large Indian and foreign consortia including Reliance Industries to win the bid. Metrowater initiated a tendering process last November, after two failed attempts.
