Severe disappointment grips me as I think how long it has taken to build the consumer GPS market, only to see it cracked and shattered in its most popular segments. It started with the over confidence of increasing prices and profitability, and ended with a desire to dump inventory ballast at any cost. The bigger surprise came from the end of the '08 holiday season. Here the story heads in two directions: The first discusses the inability of the manufacturers to tune their outdated business models and thus failing to encourage new vision, better profitability, and sustainability.rnMuch can be blamed on "Wall Street-Style Greed" and managements' ever increasing efforts at pumping the stock prices while taking home huge salaries,rnbonuses, perks and building larger than required companies that resulted in ever increasing overhead and waste of capital resources. It was not long before cracks in investor confidence began to appear and quite sometime before the nation faced the reality of the September stock market crash. The GPS manufacturing sector had failed to replace their lifernjackets and make sure their boats could handle the rough seas.
