This summer, despite pleas from offi-cials to conserve energy, attempts to escape the scorching heat led Ontario's consumption to an all-time high. Energy use peaked on August 1 at 27,005 megawatts, well above the previous high of 26,160 set in July of last year. Subsequently, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) issued a warning that the province could experience blackouts.
