Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has begun letting guests borrow handheld video cameras to help digitally document their stays. Five Rosewood properties each have five Flip UltraHD digital camcorders from Pure Digital Technologies Inc., valued at about US$200 each, for complimentary guest use. Upon returning the cameras, guests are then presented with a DVD ofrntheir amateur camerawork, created by Rosewood staff.rnFlip cameras are known for their simple, intuitive usability, which is why Rosewood selected them, says Chief Operating Officer Bob Boulogne. The cameras feature 120 minutes of recording time, an LCD viewfinder, rechargeable batteries and high-resolution video. The initiative is purely meant as an added amenity for the guests, Boulogne says, not as any kind of viral marketing plan. "We're not really doing this to use the video to market our resort," he says. "This is for the guest experience."
