By any measure, these are uncertain times for the global lodging industry. After 10 remarkable years of robust economic growth, the world's largest economy—that of the United States—appears to have run out of gas. The engine is sputtering with little real growth forecast for the next two calendar quarters, and the potential impact on demand for lodging accommodations both within and outside of the United States could be profound if consumers continue to think they need to hunker down in preparation for what's ahead.
