摘要

Advice on job descriptions: Write a really good one or don't write one at all. Why? An employee may be able to hold you legally responsible for an incorrect or incomplete description. Here's a recent illustration. A housekeeper at a luxury resort hurt her back moving a nightstand. The employer tried to deny workers comp benefits on grounds that she committed blatant safety violation. Her job description, the employer pointed out, prohibited housekeepers from lifting more than 30 pounds. To move heavier furniture, housekeepers were supposed to call for help. Aha, the housekeeper's lawyer cried. The job description didn't say a thing about pulling or pushing more than 30 pounds, which is what she did.
