The average price for each of the top 20 brand name drugs prescribed for seniors increased 12 percent everyrnyear for the past five years—a rate ten times the average rate of inflation. A report released by Senator ClairernMcCaskill (D-Mo) the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental AffairsrnCommittee, found that while 48 million fewer prescriptions were written for those top 20 drugs between 2012 andrn2017, total sales revenues from those same prescriptions increased by almost $8.5 billion dollars.
