More than 50 percent of employers view their employee recognition programs as an investment in theirrnworkforce, according to a survey conducted by WorldatWork and underwritten by ITA Group . Recognitionrnis defined as a spontaneous gesture of thanks or a structured or planned program of recognition implementedrnto acknowledge employees and achieve desired performance. Most companies (89 percent) offer recognitionrnprograms, a percentage that is largely unchanged from past surveys on the topic. Lack of support from seniorrnmanagement (28 percent) and the cost (26 percent) are the most common reasons for not having a recognitionrnprogram.
