Differential GPS (DGPS) is being relied upon more and more for marine positioning. This means that the reliability of computed positions is of paramount importance. Previous analyses [Ryan et al. 1998, 1999 a,b, and Ryan & Lachapelle 1999] have shown that, when GPS signals are masked by obstructions, the consequence is degraded geometry and accuracy at best, and unreliable positions at worst. One question that is usually unanswered when it comes to reliable marine positioning is "What is the typical blunder behavior in such an environment?" This question is partly answered herein through marine multipath simulations, given that multipath is usually the major error source in the marine environment.
