Unsophisticated Oil Refining Process Impact on Ambient Air Quality-A Model Prediction

摘要

The levels of air pollutants due to refinery emission were determined in this study. The emissions from various sources of the refinery for varying crude throughput are monitored and pollutant concentrations with respect to seasonal variations are estimated. Measurements were carried out over the period of years 1990 to 1994 and data was collected from inplant authorities, and other meteorological stations. The predicted concentrations of major pollutants depicted in terms of ground level concentrations with their main parameters, like stack exit velocity, average wind speed, wind direction, mixing height, etc., varied with the crude oil throughput, pollutant emission, and atmospheric conditions of the region. The SO_2 emissions were observed to vary from 0.29 to 0.69 Kg/MT of crude processed which is well below that of a typical European refinery. The highest levels of pollutants were observed during the winter season in Vadodara, Gujarat region.
