摘要

Natalya Sharina, director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow, faces several months of uncertainty as she and her legal team contest serious charges, says her lawyer, Ivan Pavlov. She recently appeared in a Moscow court on the charges of incitement of hatred (based on allegations of stocking anti-Russian literature) and embezzlement of library funds. She pleaded not guilty. Pavlov says that designs by Sharina "to perform extremist actions [have] not been proved ... in any way. ... As for the charge of embezzlement, it is not only unlawful ... but rather cynical." The proceedings could possibly last 6 months, he says. "The court investigation has just started: questioning of witnesses, analysis of expert statements, and studying of the books is in the future."
