As tablets inundate the consumer market and spark innovation in app development and cloud-based platforms, they soon could single-handedly phase out traditional PCs in the workforce. Apple's iPad, the pioneer in recent tablet innovation, is clearly the favorite among consumers and professionals with a nearly 90% customer satisfaction rating, according to a September 2011 American Customer Satisfaction Index survey. Professionals who have already integrated the iPad into their operations have noted reduced paperwork and increased revenue and employee productivity, according to a 2010 survey by Frost & Sullivan. While the iPad had a sluggish takeoff, it didn't take long to gain traction and has since taken the market by storm: Apple has sold more than 39.85 million iPads since the tablet was released in April 2010, with 11.12 million of those sold in 4Q 2011 alone, a 166% unit increase over 4Q 2010.
