摘要

If you have worked in libraries for a while, you probably have experienced some kind of group planning process, whether it was long range, short range, or otherwise. You may have taken part in a process that took months or years to complete. Your library may have developed a plan that wasn't ever put into practice-or perhaps it was, with great success. The results of planning in libraries have been quite varied. If you need help with this process in your public library, the Public Library Association (PLA) and author Sandra Nelson are ready to lend a hand. You may remember previous editions of a similar book. This is actually the fifth planning guide produced by the PLA since 1980. The most recent was The New Planning for Results: A Streamlined Process (2001). So what's different about this edition? It reflects recent trends in planning, such as the shift away from long-range planning to more flexible strategic plans.
