Some people think peer-reviewed journals have had their day and now face an inexorable decline.rnHowever, not everyone feels the same way. The tables of contents (TOC) in journals now can be delivered and personalized for today's Web 2.0 environment, and some award-winning journals are developingrnfeatures and finding new niches.rnrnThe U.K.'s Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) funds information and communications technologies that support higher education. The funded activities range from services such as JANET, the nationwide network that links the U.K. educational institutions, to projects such as individual institutional repositories. In April 2007, JISC started a 2-year development program for ticTOCs, a journals current awareness service using RSS feeds from publishers.
