As we head into the third month of the year and anticipate the arrival of spring, I sense a mood of optimism in the information industry. We're seeing some interesting company acquisitions, reports of improved financial results, increased customer wins, and attractive partnerships involving content and technologies. Several other metrics—advertising and attendance—have also rebounded at industry events. The comments from folks attending the recent SIIA Information Industry Summit in New York were generally quite upbeat. A key theme, however, seemed to be that companies need to constantly innovate and evolve in order to keep up with the changing needs of information consumers.
