摘要

The Google Print/Library project continues to fascinate me, as it does most of the library community and a lot of the rest of the world. Only Michael Gorman, president-elect of the American Library Association, seems to pooh-pooh its importance, and bis rhetoric of dismissal has created something of a firestorm. (Search for his name on lechnorati.com to see what happens when you try brushing bloggers off your shoulders like dandruff.) One structural aspect of the massive digitization project interests me especially. Unlike the mobile and often transient Web content around which Google and other search engines have built their services, this library/publisher book content will be stable, change-proof, and set in digital stone. That opens up some interesting opportunities.
