Firms that use their knowledge most effectively are lowering their costs by up to 25 per cent, according to research conducted by management consultancy OMC on behalf of Practical Law Company (PLC). The study found that complacent or haphazard KM strategy could hamper fee earners in their daily activities, while efficient know-how processes could have a significant effect on the overall cost of client matter delivery. Those firms that applied best-in-class approaches to KM reduced the cost of knowledge creation by up to ten per cent; and matter delivery by a further 15 per cent, through improved leverage. They were also seeing improvements in client focus and risk management.
