A National Academies' report urging the Defense Department to emulate private industry in order to increase the science, technology, engineering and mathematics workforce was "spot on," according to the Air Force's chief scientist. Speaking this week at the Air Force Association's annual conference, Mark Maybury discussed the dangers of a shrinking STEM workforce and endorsed the report's conclusions. "They were spot on. They were identifying the same data we had looked at in terms of strategic flatlining or reduction of staff," Maybury said after his speech.
