摘要

One of the results of the spate of airline accidents this summer was to focus attention on the role played by the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector - in-house airline shops, independent providers and the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) - in maintaining commercial transport aircraft in a safe condition. However, beyond the hue and cry that has been making headlines in the non-specialist media - and notwithstanding well-known concerns that affect certain specific regions of the globe - it's business as usual for the major MRO shops. The global MRO market is currently estimated at around $36 billion, according to research by AeroStrategy, a management consulting firm. If expenditure on military aircraft and general aviation is included, the figure rises to almost $100 billion. In other words, the value of air- craft MRO significantly exceeds the value of new aircraft production.
