The evolution of the EU and the former Soviet Union is an integral part of the evolution of the global economy. Appropriate analysis of the globalisation processes and adequate economic policy implementation require the economy to be regarded as a social living system that operates in accordance with physical and bio-developmental laws. Such an interdisciplinary approach, suggested in physical macroeconomics is based on the general principles of living systems. The violation of these principles is the main cause of the observed crises.
