This paper analyzes the role of contagion in the sovereign debt crisis among the countries collectively known as the PUGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, and Spain). We analyze both contagion and shift-contagion (defined as a significant increase in cross-market linkages following a crisis through investor expectations and perceptions) for PUGS.
