Main construction work on the Kavsak Bendi dam and hydropower project was completed earlier this year. The project is in the south of Turkey, in the Mediterranean sea region in the Upper Seyhan river basin, 8 km downstream of the intersection of the Zamanti and Goeksu rivers, which are the two main branches of the Seyhan river. Construction activities began on the project in 2008, with the construction of access roads and excavation of the diversion tunnel and headrace tunnel inlet and outlet portals. After the main contractor had been appointed, main construction works started in August 2009 and were completed in June 2014. The Kavsak Bendi scheme comprises a 94.5 m-high concrete faced rockfill dam (CFRD), an Ogee-type spillway on the right bank with three radial gates, a 2807 m-long headrace tunnel with a 231.6 m-long underground penstock, a surge tank, a main powerhouse and, an auxiliary powerhouse, which uses the mandatorily released water for the continuation of wild life habitats. The installed capacity of the powerhouse is 185.85 MW. The installed capacity of the auxiliary powerhouse is 5.43 MW.
