Located in the western Black Sea region, this dam is on Karasu creek which is one of the tributaries of Gokirmak river. Implementation of the project will provide irrigation for 11 553 ha within the Karasu valley and Ihsangazi plains, as well as potable water of 10 hm`3/year to Kastamonu city from the dam, which has a total reservoir volume of 42 x 10~6m~3. The concrete faced gravel fill dam is 86.5 m high from the thalweg and has a total fill volume of 3.2 x 10~6m~3. Stored water will be controlled and diverted to potable water systems, irrigation water systems, and bottom outlet systems through a branching structure which intakes water
