Dr. Hiroyuki Iwamoto is Head of the Cross-Industrial Collaboration Group, Industrial Collaboration and Coordination Center, JAXA. The questions in the interview are from the IJSTMI Review Board. IJSTMI: How did the idea for the COSMODE project arise? Particularly after the unsuccessful launch of a common ISS brand among the ISS partners. Iwamoto: The JAXA COSMODE PROJECT is a product development project to transfer cutting-edge ideas from Japanese space development into more varied daily use. Thus, COSMODE products are not necessarily developed to be used in space/ISS. Rather, we grant the JAXA COSMODE PROJECT logo to products that are developed through collaborations and the cooperation of JAXA and private companies. Some of such products are derived from JAXA's joint research programs, and others are spin-offs of JAXA-owned technologies. We also grant the logo to certified Japanese space food.
