If you've been around the IBM i platform since the AS/400 days, you might recall a time when externally attacheo disk storage was quite in fashion. The IBM 9337 RAID subsystem, which connected a single AS/400 machine to an array of checksum-protected disks, was for a time the preferred way of attaching DASD to the system, along with a few other non-IBM options, such as EMC.rnAs they say, "Everything old is new again," and once again, externally attached DASD is a viable option for IBM i. Also again, the biggest players in the i space are IBM and EMC. But this is not your father's 9337! Now, external storage exists in large disk subsystems, capable of attaching to multiple platforms over a mul-tigigabit-per-second copper or Fibre Channel SAN.
