On 24 October 2016, the first of the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) new AgustaWestland Merlin HC4/4A helicopters, upgraded from the HC3/3A standard through the Merlin Life Sustain-ment Programme (MLSP), took flight. This was the latest milestone for the Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) as it continues to transition to new types and reorganise from counter-insurgency to contingency operations while providing a high-readiness littoral manoeuvre (LitM) multirole capability to the UK armed forces as part of 'Joint Force 2025'.
