The Polish Armament Inspectorate has announced a 'technical dialogue' for the possible delivery of 250 semi-automatic sniper rifles chambered in the 7.62×51 mm NATO calibre to replace the Polish armed forces' worn-out Soviet-made SVD (Dragunov) rifles. Poland is seeking a designated marksman rifle (DMR) capable of eliminating a target wearing body armour and destroying a light armoured vehicle at a range of 800 m. Under the initial requirements the rifle must be fed from a magazine holding at least 10 rounds and be equipped with four NATO Accessory Rails (NAR), with a top rail long enough to accommodate an optical scope coupled with a night vision or thermal sight. The rifle should be compatible with the Schmidt & Bender 3-12×50 scope and NSV-80/NSV-1000 night vision sights used by the Polish armed forces, but be delivered with just a red dot sight weighing less than 120 g.
